Die Cutting Distress Oxide Backgrounds + New Birch Press

Hello everyone! I am back today with a brand new set of cards that I created using Distress Oxide inks and brand new dies from Birch Press Design! Have you seen Birch Press’ layering dies? They are so much fun, and versatile too. In this video I’ll show you how you can use them without the usual simple cardstocks, but instead with DIY backgrounds!

Die Cutting Distress Oxide Backgrounds + New Birch Press

In all my cards I used Distress Oxide inks to make the backgrounds. You can make backgrounds in so many ways and I share multiple methods for doing so in the video!

This first card using the Butterfly Garden layering set; the colors I used were Tattered Rose, Picked Raspberry and Wilted Violet. The “thanks” sentiment is a brand new Birch Press die, Big Thanks Sugar Script. There are also some cute Pretty Pink Posh jewels in both Pink Blush and Pansy Purple.

Continuing with the purple tones, I made another card; this time I die cut Oxide ink backgrounds with the Sparkler Butterfly set. Isn’t that butterfly gorgeous?? I paired it with some Swirl Stitch Clouds from Memory Box and the Sugar Script Smile die; the smaller sentiment is from a Simon Says Stamp You Got This set.

I loved working with this Sparkler Butterfly die so much that I made another version using Abandoned Coral, Fossilized Amber and Spiced Marmalade. This time I used the Sugar Script Kindness sentiment die for the greeting; these Sugar Script dies have become some of my most favorite word dies!

I made a bonus card while I was working on these other cards; this one features the stunning Dazzler layering die. Isn’t that delicate mandala design so pretty?  I used Evergreen Bough and Cracked Pistachio Oxide inks for two of the layers, plus the top layer has some pretty Tonic Studios Sugar Crystal glitter cardstock.

Die Cutting Distress Oxide Backgrounds + New Birch Press

The Rose Frame die from Poppy Stamps made the perfect tone-on-tone background behind the Dazzler die. There are also some dots of Morning Dew Nuvo Drops on the top layer of the Dazzler die. I added the Sugar Script Celebrate greeting along with the a sentiment from the Simon Says Stamp Birthday Palooza stamp set to finish off the card.

Be sure to watch the video at the top of this post to see how all these cards came together! I hope these cards have inspired you to try this technique, plus find some ideas for using dies from the newest Birch Press Designs release!

Thanks so much for visiting with me today; I will be back again soon with more inspiration for you!

Foil Mates Inspiration + ThermoWeb & Gina K. Designs

Hello everyone! Today I wanted to pop in and share some inspiration using a few of Therm O Web’s newest foiling products with Gina K. Designs!

There are two new sets of Foil-Mates, including Birthday Bash and Tag Borders. Therm O Web previously released the Decorative Tags and Decorative Labels die sets, which coordinate perfectly with these new Foil-Mates. This allows you to perfectly cut out the pre-printed design sheets and turn them into beautiful cards!

Foil Mates Inspiration + ThermoWeb & Gina K. Designs

I never seem to have enough birthday cards, so I really wanted to feature one of the Birthday Bash designs in my shaker card. I used the Decorative Label die sets to create a few layers for my rainbow-foiled birthday. That rainbow foil makes me smile! It’s from ThermoWeb’s Rainbow DecoFoil and has such a gorgeous finish!

Foil Mates Inspiration + ThermoWeb & Gina K. Designs

There is more of that rainbow-foil on the acetate window of my shaker card! You might be wondering how I foiled acetate? This is so easy with the help of ThermoWeb’s Distressed Lines Clear Toner Sheets! These clear toner sheets are perfect for making a variety of clear accents on your cards, including shaker windows. There are lot of Clear Toner Sheet patterns to choose from, but my favorite is the Distressed Lines; they look like painted stripes!

If you are new to foiling, be sure to watch the video above; I’ll show you how to foil all of the pieces in this card; it is really quite easy! You can also see more of my foiling tutorials HERE.

Foil Mates Inspiration + ThermoWeb & Gina K. Designs

I filled my shaker with star confetti, and used Sugar Crystal glitter cardstock from Tonic Studios as the background; there are also Nuvo Drops and stars accenting the front of the card. Finally, I used a Memory Box Double Stitched rectangle frame die to finish off the entire design.

I hope you enjoyed today’s card and will watch the video at the top of this post to see how it all came together! If you get a chance to try out these new Foil-Mates from ThermoWeb and Gina K. Designs, I know you will have lots of fun foiling these beauties up!

Alcohol Ink Backgrounds with Copics 3 Ways + Altenew Hop

Hello everyone! Welcome to my stop as a guest for Altenew’s July Stencil Release blog hop! If you have already been hopping along, you should have arrived from Enza Gudor’s blog.

There are many ways you can use stencils, but today I will be sharing a 3 variations to working with stencils, all paired with Copic markers. Copics are alcohol-based, which means that when colored on Yupo paper, they react just like alcohol inks.

I created a total of three, abstract designs; in the video above, you can learn how I built each one. Because the techniques are easy but involved, I did not include how I finished each card in the video. All the details on the finishing touches are explained below!

Alcohol Ink Backgrounds with Copics 3 Ways + Altenew Hop

The serene colors in the background, using the Spring Garden stencil, really inspire me! I loosely watercolored some Starry Flowers florals in similar color tones and layered those onto the background with Like Magic sequins from Neat & Tangled.

Altenew’s Hope stamp and die set was perfect for the sentiments on this card; I cut the die from Lavender cardstock and white embossed the sentiment onto Soft Navy cardstock. Finally, I used Morning Dew Nuvo Drops to add a dome-effect on the sequins.

Alcohol Ink Backgrounds with Copics 3 Ways + Altenew Hop

This next card has a bold, feminine feel; I was really pleased with how the Molded Lines stenciled background paired with another Altenew set, the Rose Filament dies. These loose floral silhouettes are cut with white cardstock 4 times and adhered to the background.

Alcohol Ink Backgrounds with Copics 3 Ways + Altenew Hop

I cut a few letters from Altenew’s Bold Caps Alphabet set and Tonic Studios’ Copper Mine mirror card, spelling out the word “you”. I gold heat embossed a couple of supporting sentiments onto colored cardstock, using the Just Because stamp set.

Alcohol Ink Backgrounds with Copics 3 Ways + Altenew Hop

The final finishing touch on this beauty was adding some sequins. I adore the Light and Luminous and Peach Beach sequins mixes, both of which I have scattered onto this card. Each sequin had a layer of Morning Dew Nuvo Drops over top for that special bit of embellishing.

Alcohol Ink Backgrounds with Copics 3 Ways + Altenew Hop

The last card I made for this release is by far my favorite! I was really pleased with the combination of movement and texture this City Scene stenciled background has. I die cut an entire sentiment with Altenew’s Fine Alphabet and Simple Alpha letter die sets. I cut them from three colors of Tonic Studios mirror card (Silky Sky, Purple Mist and Frosted Silver), as I love how the satin finish contrasted with the background.

To add a bit of additional interest to this scene, I splattered on some white spray ink from Altenew, and adhered Pretty Pink Posh star confetti in random places. You can’t possibly have a night sky without stars!

5 Ways to Create with Seed Beads!

0

Hello crafters! Recently I shared 5 unique ways to incorporate seed beads into your card projects over on the Simon Says Stamp blog! If you missed it, I am sharing it here for you to enjoy!

Seed beads are so often used for shakers, which I have featured in today’s tutorial. But I’ll also be sharing unique ideas for using them in other ways to further enhance and embellish your cards! Are you ready to get creative??

The first idea I’ll be sharing in the video is a traditional shaker card! By adding seed beads amongst the sequins, you pump up the noise of your shaker for some groovy sound effects! Seed beads also make great filler for a shaker! As they are oftentimes translucent, it lets you enjoy the sequins and the background behind your shaker while still giving you a nicely rounded out design.

5 Ways to Create with Seed Beads!

Inside this Impression Obsession Sea Life Frame shaker, I added Studio Katia Summer Sky seed beads and our Simon exclusive Mermaid sequins. There are a few Studio Katia Iridescent Bubbles amongst the fish, and the sentiment was cut from our Simon Good Vibes die set!

5 Ways to Create with Seed Beads!

The next seed bead technique we will play with in the video is creating a shaker OVER a stamped image! Seed beads are ideal for this technique, as they are small and don’t hide the image, no matter how big or small your shaker is! I used our Simon exclusive Beautiful Day stamp and coordinating die set in this card. Keep in mind that when you try this technique, it works best if you use a coordinating die to cut out the window for your shaker.

5 Ways to Create with Seed Beads!

Inside the butterfly cut-outs, I added Iridescent seed beads from Studio Katia. The color of these sequins really enhances the pretty colors of the butterflies!

5 Ways to Create with Seed Beads!

After we create the shakers, we’re really going to spice things up! I adore the Build a Cone stencil from Brutus Monroe. Check out how fun it is to stack layer after layer of ice cream scoops onto the cone! I used a few Oxide Ink colors to do the blending.

5 Ways to Create with Seed Beads!

But the best part of ice cream is ALWAYS the sprinkles, right? With a bit of imagination, you can use a colorful assortment of beads, such as the Iridescent Rainbow mix from Studio Katia as those delicious sprinkles!

5 Ways to Create with Seed Beads!

I’ve stepped up the sprinkle effect even further by making a “fudge sauce” with Light and Fluffy modeling paste and Vintage Photo reinker! While the paste was still wet, I gently pressed some more rainbow beads in the paste and let it all dry. Doesn’t this cone look good enough to eat?? The sentiments I used on this card are from our Everything Together and Love You Like stamp sets.

5 Ways to Create with Seed Beads!

Have you ever tried covering a die cut shape with seed beads? The effect is GORGEOUS! I especially love the look of those Iridescent seed beads on top of colored cardstock. With our Simon exclusive, Adeline Butterfly die, I cut many colorful butterflies and coated each with a layer of Glossy Accents; while the adhesive was still wet, I dropped beads into the glue, along with a touch of Lawn Fawn Prisma glitter.

5 Ways to Create with Seed Beads!

The Glossy Accents holds the glitter and beads beautifully, and nothing falls off! I layered these butterflies onto a colorful card, along with Flickering Butterflies and sentiments from our Yes You Can stamp set. Check out the dimension and shine!

5 Ways to Create with Seed Beads!

Finally, the last technique we’ll cover in the video is adding seed beads into an in-lay die cut design. This is such a unique way to fill in a shape, such as the petals of our Simon exclusive Hibiscus Frame die! I cut the flower from different shades of Tonic Studios glitter card, and in each of petal shapes, I added a layer of Silver Shimmer Pretty Pink Posh seed beads

5 Ways to Create with Seed Beads!

I used Glossy Accents again to hold the beads inside the petals. But oo-la-la! I adore the texture and shine it has once everything dried! I also used a Memory Box Double Stitch Square and our Simon Love You dies to finish off this colorful beauty!

5 Ways to Create with Seed Beads!

Be sure to watch the video at the top of this post to see all these techniques in action! I hope they inspire you to create some cards with seed beads too!

Gatefold Watercolor Floral Card + Altenew’s Watercolor Release

0
0

Hello crafters, welcome back! As many of you know, I am a big fan of watercoloring; it is the technique I first started with when I began cardmaking and even all these years later, it has still held the place as probably my most-favorite coloring medium.

When I found out last year that Altenew was planning on releasing a 36 set of watercolors to coordinate with their ever-growing line of prodcuts, I was thrilled! I have played with these watercolors for almost a year now and can tell you that I still love them as much as I did when I first tried them out last Fall.

Gatefold Watercolor Floral Card + Altenew's Watercolor Release

Today I am participating as a guest in a celebration hop showcasing this gorgeous palette of watercolors. If you have already been hopping along with us, you should have arrived from the amazing, Yoonsun Hur’s blog. Yoonsun is super-talented with watercoloring; I’ve always admired her cards!

Speaking of cards, I have two to share with you featuring these new Altenew watercolors!

Gatefold Watercolor Floral Card + Altenew's Watercolor Release

The first is this elegant, gatefold design. I have loved working with the Starry Flowers stamp set from Altenew and it works so perfectly for this particular card, as the arrangement of florals is quite large.

The Starry Flowers stamp and die set from Altenew is a current favorite of mine; if you love this set as much as I do, you may want to check out this post, where I layered the florals onto a vibrant Copic marker background. I’m also a big fan of the sentiments in this stamp set, as they work well on so many cards.

Gatefold Watercolor Floral Card + Altenew's Watercolor Release

This card is best explained by watching the video at the top of this post. In the video I walk you through how I built the gatefold design with the Starry Flowers stamp and die set. I also talk about the new watercolors, as well as teach how I watercolored these florals too.

All the watercoloring was done on Canson XL watercolor paper. This paper has a pretty light tooth to it, so it works great for stamping and heat embossing. I also recommend you use a powder bag to prep the surface of your watercolor paper before stamping. This will make sure you eliminate any oils or static from the paper.

I also created a bonus card for you that I colored with these new Altenew watercolors! On this simple card I used the Happy Together and Story of Us stamp sets.

3 Ways to Add Sparkle + Rubeena’s Anniversary Blog Hop

3 Ways to Add Sparkle + Rubeena's Anniversary Blog Hop

Hello creative friends! Today I am sharing 3 unique ways to add sparkle to your cards. All of these glittery techniques are easy to acheive and the best part? None of the glitter comes off!

I’m also excited to share that my sweet and kindhearted friend, Rubeena Ianigro is celebrating her 4th Anniversary of crafting with a BIG 2-day blog hop! I have known Ruby for this same length of time, and I am so blessed to have been able to share so many laughs, encourage each other in our creative journeys, and spend time together this year after 3 years of online friendship… Ruby is a very special person and helping her celebrate her awesome acheivements means a lot to me.

If you have already been hopping along in today’s hop, you should have arrived from the blog of another friend of mine; Jessica Frost-Ballas!

How I Made It
3 Ways to Add Sparkle + Rubeena's Anniversary Blog Hop

For this card, I was going for something modern, yet feminine. I also wanted to work with a limited color palette, so you’ll notice that there are just pink and blue tones, anchored by silver and white for some softness.

The first thing I did in creating this card was make the background; because I was going for feminine here, I used a Neat & Tangled Modern Triangle stencil with DIY glitter paste. This is glitter technique number one!

The glitter paste is a mixture of clear, Transparent Gloss paste mixed with WOW’s Truffle glitter. The paste mixture is carefully applied through the stencil over a Worn Lipstick Distress Oxide ink smooshed background.

3 Ways to Add Sparkle + Rubeena's Anniversary Blog Hop

Next I stamped a bunch of the Altenew Layered Laurel images with their Cool Summer Night oval ink pad set. The blues in this ink grouping are some of my most-favorites!

After stamping the images and fussy cutting each leaf branch out, I broke out my second glitter technique for today; a glitter pen! The Stardust clear glitter pens from Sakura are so pretty. The glitter has a warm, almost silver effect to it and looks so delicate and elegant on the blue laurel leaves.

3 Ways to Add Sparkle + Rubeena's Anniversary Blog Hop

Of course I needed to add a sentiment to fill in the center portion of the card… with the celebratory theme of the hop, I felt it only appropriate to use a “happy” greeting in my design!

The Simon Says Stamp Big Happy word die is a gorgeous script that exudes a modern, feminine feel and looks great cut from the Tonic Studios Silver Screen glitter cardstock (which is my third glitter technique!). There is a supporting sentiment under the greeting using the Birch Press Design Sending You Love stamp set.

For a bit of final embellishing, you’ll notice a scattering of Rose Gold and Peach Beach sequins (from both Pretty Pink Posh and Simon Says Stamp).

3 Ways to Add Sparkle + Rubeena's Anniversary Blog Hop
Why I Love It

I love how this card turned out and I hope you like it too! These techniques are all easy to recreate and I really am happy about the no-mess glitter … no sparkles will end up off the card once it dries. YAY!

Thanks so much for visiting with me today; keep on reading for all the supplies used in this card, plus details on the blog hop and giveaway!

Copic Contrast Coloring + Simon’s Clearly Besotted STAMPtember® Exclusive

This is a preview of a card tutorial I have created for Simon Says Stamp’s Blog and YouTube channel! Please visit their blog to watch how I made this card!

Hello friends! The latest STAMPtember® release from Simon Says Stamp is here, this time in collaboration with Clearly Besotted. This set, Lift Me Up has adorable, hot air balloons that each feature sweet critter faces and kiddos riding in the baskets! I couldn’t decide on which combination of balloons I wanted to include on my card, so I decided to simply use all of them!

How I Made It

To make the card even more unique, I decided to create a night scene for the balloons to be floating through. The contrast turned out so awesome! I selected bright Copic colors for the balloons and then a couple of deep blue violet tones for the night sky.

Oh and did you see the stars in the sky? I LOVE the faceted, iridescent gem stars, which happen to be from Studio Katia. There are even some teeny tiny silver stars from Pretty Pink Posh’s mini star confetti collection.

If you want to see how I colored these balloons, and particularly  the night sky, I encourage you to visit Simon Says Stamp’s blog to watch the video!

Why I Love It

I am loving the contrast this card has! By using really bright colors against rich, dark tones, you create such depth and interest, which is why this card carries so much bold contrast!

I hope that you are inspired by the card that I created today using the Clearly Besotted and Simon Says Stamp STAMPtember® exclusive, Lift Me Up stamp set! If you love this set, don’t forget that it is limited edition and once sold out, it will not be coming back.

Did you also know that there is a SECOND exclusive from Clearly Besotted for Simon Says Stamp?? YES! The Magnificent Magnolia stamp and die set is gorgeous! Check it out:

Thanks for stopping by and visiting with me today; I will see you again very soon with more inspiration to share!

Foiling with Stencils + Simon’s Tim Holtz STAMPtember® Exclusive

Hello creative friends! Do you love to foil? Have you ever tried foiling with stencils and Transfer Gel? Whether you haven’t ever foiled before, or if you are looking for a fresh idea for using stencils with foiling products, then I think you will enjoy today’s video!

In this tutorial, I will be using foiling products from ThermoWeb. But I also happen to be featuring a very special, STAMPtember® exclusive set from Simon Says Stamp in each of there cards… the Tim Holtz STAMPtember® 2018 stamp AND stencils set! This large 6×8 stamp set is accompanied by 4 stencils that make awesome backgrounds on cards. Want to see how? Watch the video below!

Watch the Video
How I Made It

For this classical Christmas card I used the Mint Shifters mini stencil on , and over the dried Transfer Gel I heat set ThermoWeb’s Silver Shattered Glass Deco Foil.

On top of the foiled design, I layered a vellum heart cut with the Wrapped Stitch Hearts die set from Memory Box. There are greetings heat embossed in Alabaster and Sterling powders from Brutus Monroe; all the greetings are from a stamp in the STAMPtember Tim Holtz stamp set.

To finish the card I added Sparkling Clear sequins around the design to give a bit more shine to this already glimmery card!

This next card has a bit more of a retro feel to me. I used the Stars Shifter stencil and first blended on Dusty Sage ink through the stencil. Then I reapplied the stencil to the kraft cardstock (lining up the etched star outlines with the ink blended stars); through the stencil I applied Transfer Gel. This finished a continuous pattern across the paper. Once the Transfer Gel dried, I heat set Radiant Red Fancy Foil over the stars.

The sentiments on the card are from the Merry Christmas script and Fa La La stamp sets; both are heat embossed with Antique Gold powder from Simon. For a final touch, I adhered tiny Gold Star Confetti pieces between the larger, foiled stars; and there are dots from a white gel pen too.

For my final card (which is my most-favorite!), I used the Tree Shifter stencil on Turquoise Sea cardstock. For the Transfer Gel foiling, I applied Emerald Watercolor Deco Foil and did ink blending with Evergreen Bough Distress Oxide ink between the foiled trees.

On top of this gorgeous background I added a die cut greeting from the Fa La La die set (the gold is Tonic Studios Gold Pearl Mirror card); to pair with the large sentiment, I white heat embossed smaller ones onto Green Apple cardstock using the coordinating Fa La La stamp set.

Embellishing the card included a bit of festive ribbon along the top and sprinkled Sparkling Clear sequins around the card too.

Why I Love It

Foiling looks great on any card, at any point during the year… but on holiday and Christmas cards, they are almost even more spectacular if that is possible! I was thrilled at how well these look paired with the Tim Holtz STAMPtember exclusive for Simon Says Stamp!

I enjoyed working with this set so much, that I actually created two other projects, this time using the stamps! At the time I took this photo, the bird project wasn’t finished yet… but I’m planning on sharing these cards over the next couple days, so stay tuned for that!

I hope you enjoyed today’s tutorial and thank you so much for stopping by and visiting with me! I will be back again very soon with more inspiration for you!

Hello creative friends! Happy Fun & Festive Blog Hop day! Today Simon Says Stamp is celebrating the release of their latest collection of exclusive products with day one of a two day blog hop. I am very excited to be part of day one’s celebration and I hope you will hop along to see all of the other gorgeous inspiration that is being shared!

If you have already been hopping along with us, you should have arrived from the amazing and oh-so-sweet, Laura Bassen’s blog! You can reference the entire hop list at the Simon Says Stamp blog.

How I Made It

This festive card features many of the products included in the latest Simon release, such as: the Ornamental CZ Design stamp and die set, sentiments from the Critter Sweaters and Tiny Words Christmas sets, a background stamped with the Outline Snowflakes cling, and even some star sequins that I pulled from the Christmas Magic mix.

I stamped the ornaments with Willow, Lipstick Red, Rosie Cheeks, Mint Candy and Sea Glass inks from Simon. They are arranged onto a white card base that is white heat embossed using the Outline Snowflakes cling; with the emboss resist technique, I blended Mint Candy and Sea Glass inks around the edges for some soft, subtle color.

The greetings are embossed too; I used Rosie Cheeks ink and Singing in the Rain glitter embossing powder from WOW for the Merry Christmas. The smaller sentiment strips are white embossed on black cardstock with the Tiny Words Christmas set.

Finally, I added embellishments around the ornaments; a mix of silver confetti stars, stars from the Christmas Magic mix, and Clear Droplets.

I really love the modern feel of this card, as it carries both a fun and festive vibe that is fitting for this release and blog hop! I hope you will watch the video to see this card come together, and be sure to participate in the hop to see even more FUN and FESTIVE inspiration!

Thanks so much for visiting me … Happy Thursday!

Altered & Layered Die Cuts + Simon's DieCember Release

Hello everyone! Have you seen the brand new, DieCember® release from Simon Says Stamp that was revealed today?? It’s full of fun dies, which I couldn’t wait to create with.

In today’s project I am altering one of the Picture Book dies; plus using other dies in unique ways, creating a cozy and festive Christmas card!

Altered & Layered Die Cuts + Simon's DieCember Release
How I Made It
Altered & Layered Die Cuts + Simon's DieCember Release

The darling Picture Book Latte die is simply charming! I am a big coffee person, so this die is totally up my alley! The cup has a cute smile; but for this design, I wanted to make something with more of a classy appearance. I altered the die cut adding a small heart die cut over the face. Instantly, this changed the feel of the mug to exactly what I was looking for!

I further enhanced the mug with some simple Copic marker shading and Moxy clear Glitter Glue on the milk foam.

Altered & Layered Die Cuts + Simon's DieCember Release

Next I worked on the background; using some white cardstock and embossing plates for my die cutting machine, I embossed the Holiday Knit Background die (instead of cutting it). This creates a soft, quilted effect that looks perfect with the mug! With some Tumbled Glass Oxide ink, I blended color on the edges for a frosty look.

Altered & Layered Die Cuts + Simon's DieCember Release

To finish up the card, I started layering all my pieces together. Layering die cuts add a lot of interest to your design and help complement the main elements of the card. To accent my wintry mug, I adhered a few of the Rina Snowflake dies from Simon behind it.

I also added greetings from the Christmas Cheer and Tiny Words Christmas stamp sets, plus sequins from the Sparkling Sea and Holiday Jewels mixes.

Altered & Layered Die Cuts + Simon's DieCember Release

I hope that today’s project has inspired you to create with some of these lovely, new dies from Simon Says Stamp! Be sure to come back tomorrow, as I will be participating in a blog hop and sharing even more inspiration using this DieCember® collection!

Thanks for visiting me today!
