Newton’s Nook Reveal Day #3

0
0

Hello everyone! Welcome to day three of the Newton’s Nook Designs May release; I am so happy you’ve stopped by! Today we are revealing the super cute Newton’s Book Club stamp set and I have created a set of fun bookmarks (or tags if you prefer!)

NND_MAY16_Release_Icon

There are so many fun images and sentiments in this set; one of my favorite sentiments is “curl up with a good book”! I have always loved reading books since I was a kid; when I was young I used to read Nancy Drew mysteries. Nowadays when I read a fiction book, it’s a police/FBI/military crime solver with romance weaved in… love a good thriller!

Newtons Book Club_1

When I saw the Newton’s Book Club set, I knew immediately I needed to make some cute bookmarks! To do so, I used the Pretty Pink Posh Stitched Essentials die set, which contains three different shaped tag dies that were the perfect size for these Newton’s Book Club images!

The tags are die cut from watercolor paper, as I wanted to do watercoloring with my Winsor & Newton Cotman watercolors. I stamped all the cats onto each tag/bookmark using Simon Says Stamp’s Intense Black ink. Because I wanted the bookmarks to coordinate, I used similar colors for each one.

Newtons Book Club_3

After coloring each bookmark, I white heat embossed sentiments onto colored cardstock and fussy cut around the sentiments so I could adhere them to my bookmarks (for two of the bookmarks I did this; on the third I simply stamped the sentiment in black ink). I also stamped and watercolored a little red heart for each of the bookmarks (and fussy cut them each out).

Finally I added hole reinforcers (using the reinforcer die included in the Stitched Essentials die set) in matching cardstock colors and tied some coordinating bakers twine through the holes of each bookmark.

Really cute huh?? I certainly think they are! :D

Simple Scallop Shape Card

Hello everyone, thanks so much for joining me today! I have a fun, shaped card to share using the new A Happy Little Thought stamp set from Newton’s Nook Designs!

Simple Scallop Shape Card_1

I really love this new stamp set from Newton’s Nook, don’t you??? The fun, doodled look is adorable and I thought it would be fun to watercolor it using my distress inks. I used a combination of Ripe Persimmon, Picked Raspberry, Spun Sugar, Mustard Seed, Abandoned Coral, Peeled Paint, Crushed Olive and Tea Dye for all the watercoloring. At times I mixed the colors together to create other shades, and then other times I just used a straight color of ink; there wasn’t a real plan for where the color went on each flower. The only “planned” part of this process what using a palette of colors that went well together! The images used are all stamped from the A Happy Little Thought set, other then the butterflies which were from the Hello Spring stamp set.

Simple Scallop Shape Card_2

After coloring the images I die cut everything out with coordinating dies, except for the butterflies; those were fussy cut. I layered them up with foam tape onto a white circle that I had stamped my sentiment onto (also from A Happy Little Thought) and then added Spectrum Noir clear sparkle to the largest flowers, the bow and the butterflies.

My circle panel was then mounted onto a scalloped circle card base. The card base was created with pink cardstock that I die cut using the Lawn Fawn Scallop Circle Stackables dies; after die cutting two scallop circles, I scored the one scallop circle (the piece that would become the backside of the card) at about 1/2 of an inch from the top-most scallop. I added adhesive above the score line and then adhered the unsecured scallop circle (the front side) to the back. I also stamped the front of the card using a woodgrain background cling stamp.

And to finish off my card, I wanted to add a few Pretty Pink Posh Marshmallow sequins; I love how adding them in the direction that the butterflies are going helps the card flow and creates a sense of movement.

Hello there friends! I have a new My Favorites post to share with you, featuring my favorite stamps, dies, tools and more over the past month!

STAMPS

my favorite stamps_may1. Awesome by Neat and Tangled: This stamp set is truly “awesome”!! I love the big, bold font on this sentiment set and the variety of ways you can use this to be able to tell someone how wonderful they are. A definite new favorite of mine!

Neat & Tangled Reveal #2_2

2. Happy Little Thoughts by Newton’s Nook Designs: I really think this set from Newton’s Nook is a great addition to their stamp collection! It gives you so many options for creating cute floral wreath cards and the greetings are so fun!

Simple Scallop Shape Card_1

3. Duck Stackers by Art Impressions: I love these super cute ducks!!!! Art Impressions is a new stamp company for me and I love their critter stamps! They are all made from rubber and are cling mount stamps, which makes them perfect for using with clear blocks and stamp positioners.

Watercolor Birthday Scene_6

4. Punny Messages by Whimsy Stamps: I love a good pun and I designed this stamp set for Whimsy Stamps’ May release. Its a favorite because I love how the sentiments and images pair together to create really fun cards!

Punny Messages_4

5. Newton’s Book Club by Newton’s Nook Designs: Talk about a really fun stamp set!! This super cute book-lovers set has so many adorable images in it, and the sentiments are fabulous. I had so much fun using this stamp set and can’t wait to break it out again for cards, tags and more!

Newtons Book Club_1

6. Look for the Miracles by Simon Says Stamp: The June 2016 card kit from Simon Says Stamp contained this really neat stamp set. I love the sketchy, hand drawn appearance of these images; I used this on many cards this month. The sentiment is PERFECT for encouragement cards too, which is always a great type of sentiment to have on hand.

Stamped Backgrounds + One Layer Card Set_2

7. Cuddly Critters by Simon Says Stamp: This set is beyond adorable! I have used this set in so many different cards already since it was released and I know I will be using it even more in the future! It also has a coordinating stamp set that can be purchased as well called Cuddly Critters Accessories. Having a coordinating stamp set like that helps extend the use of your sets, which is always a big plus! Cuddly Critters Accessories can even be used on it’s own too… so many possibilities!

DIES

my favorite dies_may

1. Friend Like You by Concord & 9th: This die set from Concord and 9th is a really fun one! I have used this numerous times already and I love how you can use it in so many different ways. There is even a stamp set that coordinates with it called Friend Like You Borders. I also like that you can use the words in the die alone, or with the brackets that are included with the die set.

In Lay Die Cut Focal Point_3

2. Storybook 4 by Pretty Pink Posh: The Storybook 4 die set is a brand new addition to Pretty Pink Posh’s Storybook collection! I have used this die many times already since it’s release, and on May 31st I have a brand new video coming out showcasing this – and all the other Storybook dies – to create fun and colorful shakers!

3. Stitched Essentials by Pretty Pink Posh: If you love tags, this new Stitched Essentials die set from Pretty Pink Posh is a perfect addition to your stash! I LOVE the three fun shapes that are included, along with all the other supporting elements that come in the set! This gives you SO many options in creating fabulous custom tags, bookmarks and more!

4. Stitched Starburst by Neat & Tangled: The Stitched Starburst dies from Neat & Tangled are a new favorite of mine! I love being able to use it as a sun for scene cards, or you can use it as a focal point for a sentiment!

Freestyle Watercolor Sky Scene_2

5. Painted Grad by Simon Says Stamp: Graduations are right around the corner and the new Painted Grad die from Simon Says Stamp is perfect for using on all those graduation projects. I really love the brush script font, which matches with so many different styles!

TOOLS

my favorite tools_may

1. Retractable Craft Pick by Tonic/Tim Holtz: This tool has become invaluable to me! Whenever I have a die cut stuck in my die, I simply grab my retractable craft pick and poke out the paper… Easy peasy!

2. Mini Guillotine by Tonic/Tim Holtz: Paper trimmers are very handy for me, especially having a small one for those little trims and snips. The Mini Guillotine Trimmer from Tonic is perfect for me because of its compact size, lightweight portability and sharp blade. When I have paper that I need to trim down as I am working on a card, I always reach for this trimmer.

3. Broad Flat Waterbrush by Tim Holtz: I love using water brushes for my watercoloring. Most often I use them empty (without water inside the barrel), but having the option of using it either way is nice. The flat brush from Tim Holtz has been a great addition to my brush collection because I can uses it for a variety of things… from washes to perfect stripes and everything in between, this brush is really handy.

4. Clear Embossing Ink by Simon Says Stamp: I am pretty picky about my inks,  and for embossing I have always used Versamark. But when I got the new clear embossing ink from Simon Says Stamp, I was immediately captured by it’s performance! It stamps super detailed and holds onto my embossing powder perfectly; it has quickly become my new go to embossing ink!

5. Craft Scissors  by Tonic/Tim Holtz: Having a good pair of scissors is a must for me and I have fallen head over heels for the Craft Scissors from Tim Holtz and Tonic. These cut like butter! They have a non-stick coating to prevent adhesive build up and are resistant to rust and corrosion. Definitely a must have!

6. Heat Gun by Wagner: Many people have asked me what heat gun I use; I have owned three different heat guns over the course of my 9+ years of card making and my favorite by far is the one by Wagner. The tool heats up fast and melts embossing powder much faster than other heat tools I have used in the past.

7. Reinforced Paper Trimmer by Fishers: My final favorite for this post is the new Reinforced Paper Trimmer from Fiskars. I had the older model of this tool (with the wire guide in it) for many years. However, I did have the wire guide break and was so excited to see this new version be released with an aluminum rail guide in place of the wire. I have been using it ever since it hit the shelves and I am SUPER pleased with its performance!

Newton’s Nook Reveal Day #2

0
0

Hey there everyone! Welcome back to day two of the Newton’s Nook June release where we are revealing the Flower Garden stamp set.

NNDJune16ReleaseICON

I love the gorgeous floral images included in this set and I have used the poppies to create a set of clean and simple birthday cards.

Newton's Nook Reveal Day #2_3

Creating a clean and simple card doesn’t mean its a “quick” card… My friend Yana Smakula is well known for her stunning clean and simple creations and she explained this in depth (you can listen to her viewpoint and opinions of this here). I make clean and simple cards fairly often and I agree with her assessment of creating a clean and simple card; they are quick and easy to replicate, but the design process takes time.

To create my card set, I’ve stamped the poppies onto white cardstock and colored the images with Copics. I then fussy cut each flower out and popped them off of a tag, which was stamped and die cut using the Tag Sampler and Tags Times Two sets from Newton’s Nook).

Newton's Nook Reveal Day #2_1

I used a sentiment from the Garden Starter stamp set and layered the poppies on top of a red tag; the red tag was die cut using the Pretty Pink Posh Stitched Essentials die set and stamped with a diagonal stripes stamp from Simon Says Stamp).

To finish off the card I layered everything onto a white card base that I scored some lines into for a bit of added interest. I also adhered a few sequins from Pretty Pink Posh’s Sparkling Clear mix.

Glitter Die Cut Shaker + Simon’s Among the Stars Release

0
0

Hello Everyone! I am so glad you are joining me today, as I have a sparkly shaker card to share with you featuring new products from Simon Says Stamp’s Among the Stars release!

AmongtheStars_Beach_250This new release features some incredible new products that I am really loving! There are some fabulous summer and star themed stamps, as well as great shape and builder dies too! I’m also super excited to tell you that I designed the new Uplifting Thoughts stamp set… I love creating with typography and when Heidi (the owner of Simon) told me she wanted a positive/uplifting sentiment stamp set, I couldn’t wait to start coming up with the greetings that are included in the set!

SSS101623_UpliftingThoughts_stamps

While there is SO MUCH to love about this Among the Stars release, I really wanted to try creating a see-through shaker card using the Stacked Stars die. See-through shakers have been one of my favorite things to make over the past couple of weeks and I’ll link to a few others I’ve done at the bottom of this post.

Glitter Die Cut Shaker + Simon's Among the Stars Release_3

I started off creating this card by die cutting the Stacked Stars die from both gold glitter and white cardstocks. I did not keep the white die cut stacked stars, but instead only used the negative; this is going to be the window for our card.

I adhered a piece of acetate behind the negative white cardstock panel (cut with the Stacked Stars die) and outlined the entire panel with foam tape to create a shaker well. I filled this well with Pretty Pink Posh iridescent sequins (Sunshine Glow, Ocean Spray and Lavender Moon), as well as some mini gold star confetti (also from Pretty Pink Posh). Once my shaker well was filled, I closed the shaker area up by applying a second piece of acetate onto the foam tape; this creates our see-through shaker.

Glitter Die Cut Shaker + Simon's Among the Stars Release_4

Next, I adhered the gold glitter Stacked Stars die cut onto my shaker (laid into the negative area of the white die cut panel). The gorgeous combo of gold glitter die cuts with sparkling sequins is a real stunner!

I of course needed to apply this shaker panel onto my card base, and because I wanted this to be see-through, I needed to die cut my card base from that same Stacked Stars die to create a negative window (as we did with the shaker panel).

Glitter Die Cut Shaker + Simon's Among the Stars Release_1

The easiest way to make sure the card base matches up with your shaker panel is to turn the shaker panel over to the backside, and line up the die over top of the negative with the cut lines facing up at you and then line this all up on your card base; it sounds a bit complicated but it really isn’t hard at all. I put some low-tack tape on the smooth side of the die so that when I laid my card base on top, the die stuck in the exact place; this ensured my placement would be accurate as I ran the card base and die through my Big Shot machine.

Glitter Die Cut Shaker + Simon's Among the Stars Release_2

To finish off the card I added a sentiment that I white heat embossed onto a black stitched banner; the sentiment is from the Shine On stamp set and the banner is part of the Stitched Banner dies (both are part of Simon’s new Among the Stars release).

I hope you’ve gotten some inspiration on using some of the newest products from Simon Says Stamp! Be sure to stop back tomorrow (June 17th) for a fabulous Simon blog hop… there will be loads of inspiration using the new products (and prizes!)… hope I’ll be seeing you then!

So make sure you take advantage of the perks and sign up for the Waiting List so that you don’t miss out on your Stamp of Approval box!

So now let’s check out the cards I created for the blog hop using the newest Stamp of Approval stamps and dies!

Stamp of Approval Blog Hop_7

My first card features the Concentric Circles die and Painted Thanks stamp set; both sets are designed in collaboration with Neat & Tangled. Don’t you just love the stunning design of the Concentric Circle die?? I decided to create a watercolor background using Ken Oliver Color Bursts that I later cut with the Concentric Circles die to create a gorgeous, multicolored background! The Color Bursts are a powder pigment that react and spread out when they come in contact with water; just sprinkle the powder onto your paper and spritz with water… and the powders come to life!

Stamp of Approval Blog Hop_6

I popped my Concetric Circles watercolor panel up off of a white card base with I had splattered with white gold watercolors using the Finetec gold mica paint set. I also layered the Painted Thanks sentiment onto the panel (stamped with purple dye ink from Altenew), along with Pretty Pink Posh Sparkling Clear sequins.

Stamp of Approval Blog Hop_9

My second card features the Fill in the Blanks and Wonderful Wreath stamp sets, the Lovely Lattice background stamp and the Lovely Flowers die set; I’ve paired them all together to create a colorful and VERY happy birthday card!

Stamp of Approval Blog Hop_1

For this card, I started off by using my MISTI stamping tool and the Fill in the Blanks stamp set; I stamped each word of the large sentiment in a different color of ink to create a rainbow effect. The reason I stamped this with the MISTI is because I wanted to make sure each word stayed in their original place. I also wanted to be able to stamp back over top of the sentiment with embossing ink so that I could clear heat emboss it.

Stamping each word in a different ink color is actually quite simple; just mask off the words above and/or below the word you are about to ink up and repeat this until all the words have been stamped onto your paper. For this card, the sentiment is stamped onto white card stock that was die cut using the frame die from the Lovely Flowers die set.

Stamp of Approval Blog Hop_2

After the sentiment area was finished, I used the same dye ink colors that I used for the sentiment to create an ink blended rainbow background! I first stamped the Lattice Background onto my cardstock using clear embossing ink; however, I did not do any heat embossing. I just wanted to have the clear stamped impression because this was going to create a tone-on-tone effect for the background; I applied the dye inks onto the paper using ink blending foams. As the ink was blended onto the paper, the clear stamped lattice design began to appear, like a watermark. I love how this creates a stunning look to the background without being distracting.

Stamp of Approval Blog Hop_5

To finish off this card, I scored a simple border around the edges of the card and layered some vellum under my sentiment panel (die cut with the same frame used for the sentiment panel); the entire sentiment panel was then popped up off my ink blended card using foam tape. For one final touch I used the bow stamp from Wonderful Wreath and popped that onto the top of the sentiment panel.

Finally, my third card I have to share with you features the gorgeous Lovely Flowers stamp set, along with some sentiments from Butterfly Notes. For this card I wanted to use the floral building images from Lovely Flowers to create a pretty background.

To do my stamping, I used a variety of dye inks from Hero Arts and Simon Says Stamp; all of the ink colors are listed in the products section at the bottom of this post. For the largest flowers, I layered up multiple images to create more dimension.

Stamp of Approval Blog Hop_10

After my background was stamped, I heat embossed my sentiment in Platinum embossing powder; I fussy cut it out before layering it onto the card using foam tape. I also finished off the sentiment with a supporting one stamped onto a piece of cardstock (colored with pink ink used in the floral stamping).

For a final finishing touch on this card, I scattered a few Sparkling Clear sequins from Pretty Pink Posh around the sentiment; I love how that small amount of shine dresses up the design so perfectly!

Multi-Window Die Cut Shaker + Simon August Card Kit

Hey everyone! Today is the reveal of the brand new August 2016 card kit from Simon Says Stamp called Seeing Stars, and I have two projects to share with you featuring the fabulous goodies it contains!

Seeing Stars-927_available now-01

I also have a giveaway to share with you, so make sure you scroll down to the bottom of this post to find out how you can enter!

My first card for the kit features the gorgeous Seeing Stars stamp set; I love how this set reminds me so much of constellations, galaxies and night skies… because it inspired me to think along these lines, I wanted to create a galaxy background.

Seeing Stars Simon Card Kit_5

A lot of times when I create a galaxy background, I add in lots of different colors for a multicolored effect. However, this time I wanted to see how it would look if I used just a few similar colors instead. And now that the card is finished, I can’t decide which way I like it best; multicolored or similar-toned!

To create this card, I started off by heat embossing the stars onto a piece of Bristol Smooth paper using white embossing powder and Simon Says Stamp clear ink. Embossing the stars will make them resist the Distress Ink I apply over top to create the galaxy sky. The Distress Ink colors I used were Salty Ocean, Chipped Sapphire and Wilted Violet. To create the background, I ink blended the colors onto the paper in multiple layers (spraying on water droplets in between each layer), until I achieved the look I wanted.

Seeing Stars Simon Card Kit_3

After the background was finished, I did some creative masking to stamp the sentiment in both silver embossing powder and Silvery Shimmer Delicata ink; I also added a “drop shadow” layer underneath the smaller words of the sentiment to help them stand out. To do this, I stamped those words in a navy colored ink and then back over top, slightly to the left, with the Delicata. This creates the perfect drop shadow to help make the sentiment pop!

Seeing Stars Simon Card Kit_1

For my next card I used the Vented Star die that is include in the kit to create a super-fun shaker, as well as the stamp set and some of the resist papers! I will walk you through how I created this card from start to finish in the video below, so be sure to check it out!

Hi friends! Welcome to my stop in the Pretty Pink Posh and Avery Elle collaboration blog hop!

In this two-day collaboration hop, designers from both Pretty Pink Posh and Avery Elle’s Design Teams will be sharing cards featuring products from both companies; today is day one of the hop, and if you have already been hopping along with us, you should have arrived from my super talented Pretty Pink Posh teamie, Amy’s blog! If you are just joining in, not to worry! I have the full hop order listed for you further down in the post!

In Lay Die Cut Shakers + Hop_7

The cards I have created today use many different sequins from Pretty Pink Posh, along with some of their awesome die sets; Twine and Bows and Scalloped Rectangles. I also used a newer stamp set from Avery Elle called Big Greetings, which has some stunning script styled fonts included in the set. These products paired up perfectly together to create a fun and festive set of birthday cards!

In Lay Die Cut Shakers + Hop_2

In the video I have for you today, I will show you how I used in the lay die cutting technique to create the beautiful, multi-colored frames you see on each of these cards. Originally I only planned on making three cards (the pink set), but I had so much fun doing it that I decided to create three blue versions as well! Making multiples of cards in one sitting is a great way to build up your stash… if you already have the supplies out, it really doesn’t take that much more time to create more than one of the design! The biggest key is making sure you do each step all at once for every card; this saves time tremendously.

So make sure you watch the video below to see how I made these super fun shakers! If you enjoy the video, please give it a big thumbs up and subscribe to my channel for more weekly inspiration!

One Die, Three Techniques + Hop

0
0

Hi everyone and welcome to my crafty place! Today’s video is going to share some ideas on creating three different techniques using one die set; the Fanciful Poinsettia Ornament die from Memory Box.

This video and post is also part of a special celebration blog hop hosted by Julia Altermann! Julia just recently passed 10K Youtube subscribers… I testament to her wonderful talents which she kindly shares with all of us on her blog and YouTube channel! If you haven’t seen Julia’s work before, I encourage you to go check it out!

teaser-juliacelebrates10k

As I mentioned above, I will be using the Fanciful Poinsettia Ornament in this video to create all three cards today; this die is available in the new Simon Says Stamp Masterpiece Box collection, but not yet available for purchase individually (will not be released until later this year). The Masterpiece Box is full of so many fantastic, new products by so many of your favorite brands… and even more exciting is that the products included in the collection have not yet been released, which means you get to have them FIRST! Pretty cool, huh? If you want to see more inspiration using the Masterpiece Box collection, check out my two other video posts HERE and HERE.

Now let’s check out the cards I’ve made today!

My first card may look a bit familiar to those of you that follow my blog on a regular basis; that is because this card is remake of a card I did for the Masterpiece Box Release Blog Hop; I had many followers ask for a video showing how I created the card, and so it is included in today’s video along with the other two cards!

One Die Three Techniques + Hop_10

This card uses the die in the way that it was originally intended, and the result is stunning, don’t you think?

One Die Three Techniques + Hop_1

My second card uses the poinsettia flower die to create a bold and more graphic-styled background. I love making use of the negatives of my dies – as well as the positives- as this let’s me make sure nothing goes to waste!

One Die Three Techniques + Hop_6

By popping the panel up off the card base, the drop-shadow effect makes a huge impact on this otherwise clean and simple card.

One Die Three Techniques + Hop_7

My final card features the poinsettia flower die again, but this time the positive pieces! I also added additional detail to the die cut flowers with Copic markers, which helps them come to life even more.

One Die Three Techniques + Hop_11

I also paired the poinsettia flowers with Hero Arts Cardinal Color Layering stamp set (also a Masterpiece Box item; not yet available for individual purchase); another thing I really like doing is making use of smaller/supporting images in a stamp set. This extends the use of a stamp set in so many more ways, which is always a big bonus!

To see how I created all three of these cards, and the techniques involved, be sure to check out the video below. Bear in mind that these are just three ways you can use this die set; there are SO many more things you can do with not only this die, but all of the other dies you have in your collection. Honestly, you’re only limited by your imagination! :)

If you enjoy the video, please give it a big thumbs up and subscribe to my channel for more weekly inspiration!

KEEP HOPPING & GIVEAWAYS!
